At approximately 1:39 p.m., the Millerstown Fire Department was dispatched to a reported woods fire in the 1300 block of an area near a mountain in the Millerstown region. The property owner had contacted Chief 7-2 directly, advising that the fire was rapidly moving uphill and posed a growing threat to the surrounding forested area.
Brush 7, Utility 7, and Tanker 7 responded promptly with a crew of four. Mutual aid was provided by Newport Fire Department, which responded with Brush 10 and two personnel. Recognizing the challenging terrain, Chief 7-2 requested additional resources from neighboring departments in Juniata County. Thompsontown Volunteer Fire Company No. 8 responded with their UTV, and shortly afterward, a second UTV was dispatched from Delaware Township.
Thanks to the coordinated efforts of all responding agencies, crews were able to contain the fire swiftly and prevent further spread. The fire was fully extinguished shortly after crews arrived on scene, and no injuries or property damage were reported.
“We’re grateful for the quick response and teamwork from our mutual aid partners,” said a representative from Millerstown Fire Department. “Their assistance was vital in accessing and suppressing the fire in such steep terrain.”
A heartfelt thank-you is also extended to the Millerstown Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, who provided much-appreciated refreshments to all personnel on the scene.
